Week 3 Reflection

Post Week 3 Reflection by 11:59 pm Phoenix Time Monday 11/28/11

Post your reflection for week three by creating a 150-200 word reflective statement describing how the week’s learning has affected your thought processes, development, and professional disposition. This statement should be a forum for you to reflect on your personal learning process, challenges, moments of discovery, life experiences, readings, and interactions. Ideally, you will use these statements throughout the course and the program to document your own development as a scholar, practitioner, and leader, and to reflect critically on the changes that occur during this process.

My Response

In this new week, I have thought about how a leader might show that he/she cares about others and the differences between transactional and transformational leadership.  I believe that from my own experience and the discussions I have seen from others, a caring leader demonstrates care by being truthful, being ethical, listening to others concerns, helping with and directing others towards their goals, contributing to developing strategies, being gracious and showing humility to others.

Further, I have learned about some of the differences between transactional and transformational leadership.  A transactional leadership is aimed at requirement-oriented objectives with an end result of a potential reward while transformational leadership is aimed at higher learning and critical thinking to develop progressive and unique ideas to the objectives.  There also seems to be a direct connection between the caring leader and transformational leadership in that the concerns for the project and the quality of it are important towards meeting the overall aim of the task.
